Mongui & Oceta Paramo tour in a few words:
Departure from Bogota by car to Mongui, a colonial town in the Boyaca department. On the way, you will have the opportunity to visit a major cultural and natural site in the surroundings of Bogota. Then will follow a half-day hike in the Andes, up to 4000 meters. Back to Bogota on the third day or continuation of the journey toward another destination.

Tour of Nemocon and its salt mine, a destination little-known by foreign tourists. A trip to Mongui, an authentic colonial town declared national monument. Hike to the Oceta paramo, a unique Andean ecosystem.
Visiting season:
Anytime of the year. Preferably during the dry season (from december to march and from june to september).
Physical condition:
The tour includes a slightly demanding hike at high altitude (3 800 meters max.). Therefore, this activity in not recommended to participants with cardiac or respiratory conditions. The descent into the mine of Nemocon can also be difficult in case of claustrophobia

Day 1: Nemocón Salt Mine – Road to Mongui
In the morning, a car will pick you up. You will take the road north toward the city of Nemocón in order to visit its famous Salt Mine. During the visit, you will discover the history and legends surrounding the salt trade among pre-Columbian civilizations, as well as the amazing reflections and formations inside the mine. You will take the road and follow the road that will take you to Mongui, a quiet and authentic town, near the Paramo of Oceta. Tour Colombia
Day 2: Paramo de Oceta
A 6 hours-hike will allow you to discover one of the most sensational landscapes in Colombia, the Paramo. A Paramo is a natural high-mountain ecosystem you can only find above 3 000 meters. This visit will start with a 30mn steep walk through the Andean high forest, to reach la Caja del Rey (the King’s Box), a sacred rock formation. You will continue your way up across the mountain to reach the famous Oceta Paramo. Another-worldly landscape showing a unique fauna and flora such as the Frailejones (Espeletias), Rosette plants etc. Back to Mongui early int the afternoon, you will have the rest of the day free to visit the village. Day 3: Pueblito Boyacense – Back to Bogotá
In the morning, your will head back to Bogota. On your way you will make a stop in the surroundings of the city of Duitama, and visit an area called Pueblito Boyacense (Boyaca Village). This part of town mixes every day life and perpetuation of traditional architecture as most of its inhabitants decided to live in houses representing the construction style of several of Boyaca’s authentic towns. After a quick stroll around Pueblito Boyacense, you will follow the road back to Bogota. A last stop that will mark the end of this adventure. Tour Colombia
