Pacific Region

The Colombian Pacific coast is a pristine and secluded area where diving, hiking, and observation of the amazing flora and fauna are part of the charm. Some destinations of this remote region are only accessible by plane or Boat, adding to the exclusiveness of the beaches on natural parks.
For example, the Gorgona and Malpelo Islands, the only two Colombian islands in the Pacific ocean, are protected sanctuaries where professional divers can swim among the preserved wildlife. For an easier and more accessible tour in colombia and the pacific coast, whale watching is the most attractive activity in the region.

Gastronomy

Fish soups, arroz Atollado con carne ahumada (rice with smoked meat and vegetables), bacalao de pescado seco-liso (cod fish stew), filled avocados, shrimps or prawns ceviche, fish empanadas, shrimp casserole, fish with lulo fruit from Choco, pickled fish, snapper with mustard sauce, squid salad, shrimps or prawns, crayfish or shrimp empanadas, prawn head cream soup, lentils soup with smoked fish, pusandao (catfish, sea bass or snapper soup), rice with squid in black sauce, filled squid, chaupazi (small fish), tapajeño bean stew, piando eggs, rabbit stew, quebrao (beef jerky soup), clam soup, crab soup, rice with crabs or clams, turtle meat in its shell, plumuda con platano (local fish with plantain), patacones, and finally, the tapao de pescado (fish stew), the most iconic dish of the pacific region.

Cultural Visits

In Quibdo, Carrasquilla College, the Episcopal Palace, and the Modelo School. The Santa Maria y Darien Church. In Cali, the Cayecido Square, the Centenario Library, the Calima Gold Museum, the Cali Sugar Cane Museum, the Hill of Three crosses, the Ermita Church. The Historical Center of Popayan, its museums, churches, and historical landmarks such as the Humilladero bridge. The Historical Center of Pasto, the Gold Museum of Pasto, and las Lajas Sanctuary in Ipiales.

Arts & Crafts

The Marimba de Chonta, an iconic music instrument famous in the region, the palm hats, and other objects made from coconut palm trees. Handicrafts from the Cauca Valley and Nariño regions, and ruanas (ponchos) from the region of Pasto.

Festivals & Cultural Events

The San Pacho Festival, Choco, starting on September 20. The Currulao Festival and the Fire Festival, both in Tumaco. The Virgin of Atocha Processions in Barbacoas. The Pacific Coast Folk Festival in Buenaventura. The Cali Fair, from December 25 to December 30. The Purisima Festivities in Guapi. The Blacks and Whites’ Carnival in Pasto, Nariño.

NUQUI AND BAHIA SOLANO

Nuqui and Bahia Solano are only reachable by plane from Bogota and Medellin, or boat, from Buenaventura. the location of these two villages in the northern part of the Colombian pacific coast offers wild surroundings surroundings.
This part of Colombian coast is less frequented because it is so hard to reach compared to some other coastal regions of Colombia.

ISLA GORGONA

While the Caribbean islands are often populated or allow construction of resorts, Isla Gorgona National Park is home to hundreds of animal species living in a protected wildlife reservation.
Off the shores of this island, professional divers will enjoy the presence of some of the most exotic submarine species.

ISLA MALPELO

The Malpelo Fauna and Flora Sanctuary is a safe haven for several bird species occupying this rock off the Colombian shores. The island is mostly visited by scientists who come here to study its biodiversity.
Being one of the most amazing diving areas in Colombia, professional divers spend several days on a boat around the island to swim among protected species such as hammerhead sharks. The island is on the UNESCO world heritage list.

WHALE WATCHING

The region is particularly famous for its whale watching tourism. Between July and October, whales settle in the warm bays of the colombian coast to reproduce.

Each year, thousands of tourists from all over the world flock to different part of the coast to observe these majestic mammals in their natural environment.

PARC NATIONAL NATUREL UTRIA

Peu de destinations réunissent tant de mystère et de beauté sauvage comme la Ensenada de Utria, une crique située sur côte nord du pacifique colombien, dans le département du Choco.
Dans sa partie sud, on peut observer une série de formations montagneuses recouvertes d’une jungle tropicale exubérante et embrumée. Les eaux chaudes et tranquilles de cette côte est un lieu propice attirant des espèces migratoires tels que les tortues marines, les baleines à bosse, diverses espèces d’oiseaux et une multitude de poisons tels que des Tylosaurus (espèce de poisson volant).
Les paysages de la crique sont façonnés par la marée, un phénomène encore plus marqué dans les mangroves sinueuses : à marée basse, certaines créatures se réfugient entrent les racines des mangrove s tandis qu’à marée haute, celles-ci laissent place à la faune subaquatique suivant les eaux remontant depuis l’océan.
