This itinerary includes, not only the discovery of colonial and traditional villages, but also exceptional natural sites. A journey across two of the most attractive regions of Colombia, the Eastern Andes and the Atlantic coast.

Bogota -> Villa de Leyva -> Barichara -> Santa Marta -> Cartagena -> Bogota
Highlights of this tour:
The colonial villages of Villa de Leyva, Barichara, and Mompox, as well as the historic districts of Bogota and Cartagena. This route will also allow you to admire the breath-taking views of the Chicamocha Canyon, and to enjoy the landscapes of the Sierra Nevada while visiting the Tayrona Park and Minca.
Visiting season:
All year round. It should be noted that Tayrona Park closes at different periods during the months of February, June and October. Physical condition:
The excursions on this tour do not require any special physical condition, with the exception of Tayrona Park. A 3 to 4-hour hike (over the whole day) is necessary to visit the Tayrona Park. It should also be pointed out that the car journeys are particularly long (up to 6 hours drive) between certain destinations.

Day 1: Landing in Bogota
Private transfer from the El Dorado International Airport to your hotel located in the historic neighborhood “La Candelaria”.
Day 2: Visiting Bogota
La Candelaria: Walking tour around La Candelaria and its 400 years old streets. Visit of museums such as the Botero Museum, which exhibits a large collection of paintings and sculptures and the Museum of Gold, displaying the largest collection of pre-Columbian goldsmithing in the world. Cerro Monserrate: you will reach Bogota’s highest viewpoint, Monserrate Hill, where you will observe the vastness of the Colombian capital.
Day 3: Surroundings of Bogota – Road to Villa de Leyva
Cathedral of Zipaquira: This famous cathedral is located inside a former salt mine in the small town of Zipaquira. You’ll visit this architectural prowess showing some amazing artistic sculptures made of salt and marble in the tunnels leading to the heart of the mine and its central nave. In the afternoon, you will take the road toward Villa de Leyva.
Day 4: Villa de Leyva and Surroundings
Villa de Leyva: This small colonial town, is commonly known for the richness of its architecture dating back to the 17th century, its churches and its convents, such as Nuestra Señora del Rosario. It is also the home of the heroes of the nation, Antonio Ricaurte, Antonio Nariño, and Simon Bolivar, who used to live in the town during the war of independence. Around Villa de Leyva: Three major sites are located on the outskirts of the village. First, you will visit the Convento del Santo Ecce Homo, a 17th century Dominican Convent. Then you will reach Infiernito, a Pre-Columbian archaeological site built by the Muisca indigenous tribe. And finally, you will admire the Casa Teracotta, an impressive house entirely made of clay and built by a local.
Day 5: Ráquira – Road to Barichara
Ráquira is a small village where pottery is the main industry. While visiting this charming town, you will be able to make a stop in one of the ceramic workshops and practice your skills with a local craftsman.
Day 6: Camino Real to Guane – Barichara
Guane (Camino Real): Early in the morning, you will start a 2-hour hike toward the small village of Guane, a town located downhill. You’ll follow the Camino Real trail and discover the beautiful landscapes of the Santander region. Barichara: Listed as a national monument, Barichara is a quiet and authentic town known for its colonial architectural heritage. Going down the empty streets of Barichara, you will admire amazing churches and a cathedral as well as several artisanal workshops.
Day 7: Finca de Café (Coffee Plantation)
In the morning, you will leave Barichara and head toward Mesa de Los Santos, an area located on the edge of the famous Chicamocha Canyon. In the afternoon you will visit a typical coffee plantation, one of the oldest in Colombia. You will observe the entire production process, from the plant, to the coffee bag.
Day 8: Flight to Santa Marta
In the morning, a private transportation will take you to the Palonegro Airport of Bucaramanga. You will then board a plane bound for Santa Marta. Upon arrival a car will take you to your hotel in Santa Marta, located in the historic district of the first city founded by the Spanish on the south American continent.
Day 9: Tayrona National Natural Park
Home of the Tayrona ethnicity, you will hike across the jungle to reach the edges of the park. You will then spend the rest of the day relaxing on the shores of the Caribbean coast where you will be able to swim in a natural pool and discover a coral reef while snorkeling.
Day 10: Minca
Located on slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, Minca is a village located less than an hour by car from Santa Marta. Up there you will enjoy a fresher climate and astonishing natural landscapes such as a tropical forest, waterfalls and end several bird species.
Days 11: Road to Mompox
A car will pick you up and take you to Santa Cruz de Mompox. Mompox is a fabulous colonial town, its architecture has been well preserved and became a UNESCO heritage site in 1995.
Day 12: Visit of Mompox
Mompox is famous for its jewelry industry, particularly for the “momposina” and its jewels made of silver filigree. You can take a stroll along the quiet streets or the riverbank of this centuries old town or you can take a boat to the nearby Cienga de Pijiño, a marshland housing a rich biodiversity.
Day 13: Road to Cartagena
In the morning, your private transport will take you to Cartagena, the Jewel of the Caribbean and one of the most essentials places to visit in Colombia. You will arrive to your hotel in the walled city early in the afternoon and have the rest of the day to visit freely Cartagena.
Day 14: Visit of Cartagena
On your second day in the stunning Cartagena, you will discover the historical and architectural heritage of this centuries old city. Cartagena is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The city was a Major hub at the time of the Spanish conquest and many riches left for Europe from its port. In the morning, you visit the walled city’s landmarks, it’s churches, colonial buildings and splendid squares. In the afternoon, you will be able to visit different sites situated outside the walls and dating back from the era of piracy.
Day 15: Back to Bogota
On the last day of you journey, a private transport will pick you up and transfer you to the Cartagena Rafael Nuñez airport. You will board a plane to Bogota where upon arrival you will be able to check your luggage for your international flight. This last step of the tour will mark the end of your trip around Colombia, the country of Magical Realism.
